Dr. Haren Choudhury was born on 7th July 1943 in Niz Modertola village of Baihata, Kamrup district, Assam to Late Gurucharan Choudhury and Late Brajabala Choudhury.
Born to a large Mouzadar family of lower Assam, he was the youngest son among seven brothers and sisters. He is fondly remembered by one and all for his love and affection.
In 1974, he was married to Santa Adkhikari. He leaves behind one son & daughter, son-in-law & daughter-in-law and a grand child. He also lives behind a host of students, friends and relatives, who adored him.
Through out his life, he has published 30 research papers in national and international journals, over 50 newspaper articles and 3 books. He was a active member of American Statistical Association and was involved with Union Public Service Commission and Assam Public Service Commission .
On his first death anniversary, Gauhati University dedicated a research journal as a tribute in his memory.
After securing first class first position (gold medal) in MSc Statistics, he joined Gauhati University (GU) in 1969. He received Phd in 1981 under Prof. Emeritus J Medhi and went on to retire as Professor, Head and Director of Population Research Centre in 2006.
Prof H Choudhury taught Statistics, Econometric, Education and Mathematics in a host of departments, colleges and universities in NE India. Under his supervision eleven (13) Phd scholars were awarded Phd degrees.
He was the former president of Gauhati University Teacher’s Association and member of the Academic Council. He was actively involved with affairs of several educational institutions and universities of India and North East India as member of governing bodies, executive and academic councils.
